A steep rise in Chinese demand for zinc concentrate between 2007 and 2010 resulted in a jump in imports over the corresponding period. However, a persistent supply response from China’s domestic producers has seen a steady rise in the consumption of domestically produced material and, over the past three years, a displacement of imports with CAGR at negative 18% during the same period since 2010.
Understanding the reasoning and the economics behind the domestic supply response lies at the core of this report. However, more importantly, CM Group strives to answer the question “what will be the net effect of this supply response on Western zinc concentrate imports in the next 5 years?” In order to do this the report covers
- Current status of China’s zinc mining and concentrate industry
- A detailed review of China’s resources and reserves
- A cost and profitability assessment of China’s mining and concentrate industry
- A view of the future (outlook period to 2018) based on a scenario analysis
